cfi Award for Outstanding Presentations at the 2nd Westerwald Industry Colloquium

At the second Westerwald Industry Colloquium in Ransbach-Baumbach/DE, 83 experts from all areas of the ceramic value chain met to discuss current developments in process optimisation, digitalisation and AI.

A highlight of the colloquium was the presentation of the “cfi Award”, which recognised exceptional presentations at the event. The expert jury evaluated both the presentation itself and its topic.

  • First place went to Tobias Steffen (Forschungsgemeinschaft Feuerfest) for his presentation, “AI in Ceramics: Opportunities, Challenges, Solutions”. His presentation not only convinced the jury, but also provided the impetus for establishing the new DKG committee “KeramikKI” (CeramicsAI).
  • Second place went to Dr Simone Gaffling (Intego GmbH) for her presentation on automated testing systems in industry.
  • Third place went to Oliver Drum (Gebrüder Dorfner GmbH & Co. KG), who presented on using AI to accelerate the development of refined mineral raw materials in the paint and coatings sector, providing a blueprint for the ceramics industry.

Special thanks go to the sponsor of the “cfi Award”, Göller Verlag, represented by Ulrich Werr, editor-in-chief of cfi, as well as to the jury: Dr Angelika Priese (DKG), Dr Alena Stein (FGK), Dr Markus Zwick (Inmatec GmbH) and Ulrich Werr (cfi).

The next Westerwald Industry Colloquium will take place in Ransbach-Baumbach on 3–4 November 2026.
