KYOCERA Fineceramics Medical GmbH: New Production Site in Waiblingen as European Milestone

Through its new production facility in Waiblingen near Stuttgart, Germany, which was officially opened on the 1st of October 2025, Kyocera is consistently expanding its European presence in the medical technology market. On an area of around 10 800 m² – including 5400 m² of production space and 1400 m² of office space – the company has created a state-of-the-art centre for the manufacture of high-performance medical ceramics. Featuring a fully automated and intelligently designed production environment, the site offers optimized material flows, autonomous mobile robots and advanced intralogistics solutions. Furthermore, the building is designed to meet or even exceed current regulations regarding carbon neutral production, ESG standardization, and DGNB and/or LEED certification.

BIOCERAM AZUL® – Cutting-edge Solution for Endoprosthetics
After decades of successfully marketing its medical technology products in Japan, Kyocera is now pursuing its expansion strategy in Europe with the aim of strategically developing its innovations and sustainable solutions in the European medical sector. The new plant in Waiblingen focuses on the production of BIOCERAM AZUL® high-performance ceramics, which are used to manufacture ceramic ball heads used in hip implants and other orthopedic applications. Thanks to their high fracture toughness and outstanding biocompatibility, they offer a cutting-edge solution in the field of hip endoprosthetics. Delivery is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2026.

Reliable partner for medical ceramics
“Initially, our goal is to establish ourselves as a reliable supplier for ceramic hip joint components and then, in the medium term, to act as a strategic partner for medical ceramic solutions both within and outside the field of orthopaedics,” explains Dr Fabian Preuß, Managing Director of KYOCERA Fineceramics Medical GmbH. In order to achieve this objective, Kyocera will continue optimising its medical ceramics to make a significant contribution to the medical sector and take a leading position in the European market for medical ceramics.
