90 Years of GOERG & SCHNEIDER

At the beginning of September, the clay mining company GOERG & SCHNEIDER (G & S) was able to look back on 90 years of history and development.

The company is managed in the 3rd generation of the family by Hartmut Goerg, industrial engineer, and his wife Martina Goerg, who has a degree in business administration. G & S extracts raw clay from several open-cast pits and processes it to chamotte, milled clay and ceramic bodies. Over 400000 t raw and processed clays are sold with an export share of around 50 %. Looking to the future and the next generation, the company is focussing on securing and sustainably expanding its raw material resources and investment in process-optimizing and more energy efficient clay preparation technologies. In this connection, the recent start-up of a new tunnel kiln for firing chamotte marks the conclusion of a multi-stage investment project – the biggest in the company’s history for the production of lump chamotte.
