New Generation of Kilns for Chemical and Environmental Engineering

Rotary kilns have been used for years for the thermal treatment of many different types of bulk solids. Their applications range from chemical products, e.g. pigments, construction materials such as cement, mining and metallurgical materials like ore, coal and coke to catalyst carriers, abrasives and materials for batteries. There are rotary kilns with direct and indirect heating as well as special models such as the pendulum kiln. Application temperatures up to 1650 °C can
be realised. Matthias Uhl (MU), MD at Riedhammer/DE, explained to us what
importance new design concepts, especially gastight kilns, now have.
