Methods of Rheological Measurements for the Characterisation of Silicate Slurries

The present publication investigates the flow behaviour of concentrated silicate slurries and furthermore novel rheological measurement, analysis, and assessment procedures for characterising the static and dynamic flow behaviour of the slurries in industrial and research applications. Ten different clays with
divergent property profiles were investigated in detail. At first, novel measurement and analysis procedures are presented. The application of these procedures enables to qualitatively and quantitatively investigate the time-dependent flow behaviour of silicate slurries and precisely find the optimal deflocculant concentration point. Moreover, through combination and modification of two described measurement protocols, manufacturing companies have a potentially useful tool for composition development and quality control without the necessity of purchasing a highly precise research rheometer.
