Positive Trend for VKI Member Companies in 2021

On 1 June 2022, the Verband der Keramischen Industrie (VKI – Association of the German Ceramics Industries) announced figures charting the development of its member companies in the financial year 2021. Overall, turnover increased from EUR 1021 million to EUR 1161 million (+13,7 %). The number of employees decreased by 1 % from 9685 to 9565.

In Technical Ceramics, the number of employees increased from 5701 to 5766. The aggregate turnover increased by 14,8 % to EUR 848 million On the domestic market, an increase by 12,7 % to EUR 284 million was achieved, while the international sales rose by 15,8 % to EUR 564 million. The tonnages grew by 8,3 % from 27 931 t to 39 241 t. In the porcelain industry (including the manufactories), sales rose by 10,5 % to EUR 302 million. Domestic sales had fallen by 0,2 %, only reaching EUR 156 million, while export sales improved by 24,8 % from EUR 117 million to EUR 146 million. The tonnages have increased by 2,8 % to 20 774 t. The number of employees was reduced by 4,4 % to 3637. In the stove tile segment, turnover rose by 19,7 % to EUR 10 million. The number of employees rose by 5,2 % to 162.
