Al Anwar Ceramic Tiles Board Approved Expansion Plan

The board of directors of Al Anwar Ceramic Tiles Co. has approved an expansion plan, which will increase production capacity by an additional 4 Mm²/a.

The company, which had been awaiting additional gas allocation from the government for the expansion is looking at alternative energy options till regular natural gas allotment from the government is obtained. A. Suresh, Chief Financial Officer, said that the total investment for the expansion, which will result in a sixth production line, will be between OMR 8–8,5 million and the project is expected to be completed within 12 to 15 months. The project is expected to be commissioned in the third quarter of next year. The fifth production line, with a capacity of 3,5 Mm2 is on schedule and the company has already commenced trial production. Once it reaches full capacity, the fifth line will help increase the company’s capacity to about 19 Mm2/a. The sixth line will take total production capacity up to about 23 Mm2/a. Suresh added that the demand outlook for ceramic products is very good with lots of construction activity going on in the region. The company’s net profit increased marginally to OMR 2,22 million in the first quarter of 2014, compared with OMR 2,2 million in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. The company reported flattish revenue at OMR 7,17 million for the quarter.
